Watermelon branches and leaves are the by-products of watermelon cultivation, they are usually discarded after watermelon harvest, but they contain a certain amount of nutrients and can be used as feed or organic fertilizer. In the context of this scholarly work, we conducted metagenomic sequencing to delineate the evolution microbial ecosystems within the fermented extremities of watermelon plants, in pursuit of a theoretical platform for the circular economy of such by-products.
