Gut microbiota in Machado Joseph Disease (MJD)

Bidirectional communication between the central nervous system and gut microbiome may contribute to the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases. Machado Joseph disease (MJD) is a fatal neurodegenerative disease caused by the inheritance of an abnormally expanded CAG repeat within the ATXN3 gene. Here, we present the first report of the gut microbiome changes in male and female mice transgenically expressing human mutant ATXN3.
