A Project to create employment opportunities in harvesting and processing underutilized by identifying best technology and market demand for sea cucumber waste

Grant no. NA66FK0081 This project was intended to identify a market for sea cucumber processing waste, and establish the best protocols for handling and refining the waste. It was hoped developing a use for the waste material would alleviate the burdensome cost of disposal that affected the industry's viability, protecting existing harvesting and processing jobs, and possibly create jobs in supplying this market. Because of the red pigment the waste contained, the potential market explored through this project was pigment additives for farm-raised salmon feed.
