Cellular immunity against viruses is based on detection of viral components like dsRNA which is formed during viral replication. Activation of receptors for these molecules leads to signalling events resulting in production of cytokines like interferon and antiviral proteins. We have investigated how various levels of the n-3 unsaturated fatty acid eicosapentaenoic acid influence these processes in cells from Atlantic salmon stimulated with a synthetic ds RNA molecule; poly I:C or infected with viruses like ISAV and SAV3.
