VPRS 14488 Register of Probates

This series consists of the registers kept to record the receipt and return of copies of the grant of probate or letters of administration for an estate involving the transfer (or assignment) of a Crown lease first to the executors or administrator of an estate and then, where allowed by the Land Acts, to the designated beneficiary.Details entered are the name, late residence and occupation of the deceased, the nature of the document (probate or letters of administration) and the date of its production, when the grant of probate or letters of administration had been made and to whom (most usually a designated executor), the value of the property, the date of death, the correspondence and/or file number and to whom the document had been returned and when. A remarks column allowed for notations regarding executors who retained the right to prove a will or had refused to act in that capacity and about trustees appointed to administer an estate or to guard the interests of beneficiaries who were minors.
