Reaction 1 (catalyzed by glucose-6-phosphatase) is strictly gluconeogenic, and is opposed by glycolytic reaction 10 (glucokinase). Gluconeogenic reaction 3 (fructose-1,6-bisphosphatase) and glycolytic reaction 9 (phosphofructokinase) also take place in opposite directions.
