Iris macrosiphon is deciduous and produces renewal shoots each spring from slender underground rhizomes. Its basal leaves are green, narrow (3-6 mm), linear and grow as a clump producing several flowering stems that are 1-12 cm tall with typically two purple or yellow flowers that are about 5 cm in diameter. Flowers have a floral tube that is 3.5-7 cm long with three expanded sepals, petals and petaloid style branches and three hidden stamens at its apex and a three-chambered ovary at its base.. These data have been produced as part of the CCGP. Sequencing was conducted with HiFi Pacific Biosciences long reads at UCDavis Genome Core, Dovetail's OmniC libraries, and Illumina sequencing at UCBerkeley QB3 Genomics Core.
