High resolution drone imagery and supporting underwater photos of coral reefs in Moʻorea

Summary The data in this Box folder (linked below) represent drone imagery captured of the Northern Lagoons of the island of Moʻorea from April 17-25, 2023, as well as underwater photos of the Northern Lagoons region. Methods In-water photos were collected using a Sony a6700 with a 16-50mm lens. This camera has an APS-C sensor at 24.2 megapixels and the photos were captured in JPG extra-fine format. The camera was housed in a Ikelite underwater housing connected to floating platform via a camera hot shoe adapter and 15-inch cable. All electronics were housed in a pelican case that contained an Emlid Reach M2 multi-band GNSS module. Every time the snorkeler triggered the shutter, a coordinate position was marked that was later PPK-corrected using a base station file from an Emlid Reach RS2+ GNN receiver. All geotag coordinates attained a ‘fix" solution that indicates the rover has successfully resolved integer ambiguities, resulting in centimeter-level accuracy. Drone imagery was collected at 70m flying height (1cm pixel) with a mean shutter speed of 1/2500 using a WingtraOne Gen I platform with a Sony RX1R II full frame camera with CMOS sensor at 42.2 megapixels. JPG photos were PPK-corrected using a base station file from an Emlid Reach RS2+ GNN receiver to survey-grade fixed solution. Adobe Lightroom was used to spectrally boost the colors in each photo before being uploaded and processed into orthomosaics using the cloud-based DroneDeploy photogrammetry engine resulting in an average RMSE of +/- 15cm.
