Staphylococcus aureus is among the most important human pathogens associated with a wide variety of manifestations, ranging from superficial skin infections, such as folliculitis, furunculosis, carbuncles, abscesses or scalded skin syndrome, to life-threatening conditions, such as osteomyelitis, endocarditis, pneumonia and septicemia.Within the plethora of more severe conditions caused by S. aureus, are bone-joint infections (BJIs) caused by the invasion and progressive destruction of bone tissues and cartilages. This project was aimed to study the evolution of the bacterial genome during the course of BJIs.
