Blood microbiome analysis reveals biomarkers of treatment response in drug-naive patients with First-Episode Psychosis

Recent research indicates that the microbiome may play a pivotal role in psychiatric disorders, such as schizophrenia, with the gut microbiome being the primary focus of investigation. Our study examined the blood microbiota in 20 drug-naive first-episode psychosis (FEP) patients before and after one month of antipsychotic treatment. Using high-throughput sequencing targeting the V3-V4 region of the 16S ribosomal RNA gene, the objective was to explore the dynamic characteristics of the blood microbiome in FEP patients and assess whether the microbiome might influence their response to antipsychotics.
