VPRS 12421 Inspector General's Copies of Specifications

The Public Works Department (VA 669) had wide-ranging responsibilities for all public works and buildings, including construction, maintenance and fitting out of these buildings. Other major responsibilities included roads and bridges, ports and harbours, local government and water supply.The Department produced specifications for works relating to public buildings with contractors carrying out the work under the supervision of the Departments Inspectors of Works. This series consists of letterpress copies of specifications for construction, maintenance, furniture and fittings for a number of major public buildings. These include Parliament House, the Melbourne Law Courts, the General Post Office and other Government buildings.
