The data are based on a meta-analysis. Isotopic compositions of rainwater and plant xylem water are used to estimate the proportion of root-zone water replenished by rainfall based on the piecewise isotope balance (PIB) method (Luo et al., 2019; Xu et al., 2019). Here, the datasets include root-zone water replenishment, water ages, precipitation, mean daily potential evapotranspiration, antecedent relative extractable water (REW) in soils of different species for nine studies from five climates zones.
