The purpose of this study is to develop best practice guidelines for psychotherapy to advance mental health treatment and interventions for adults (ages 18+) with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). The guidelines are designed to inform mental health professionals on the most effective techniques and practices to use when providing mental health treatment to adults with IDD. To create these guidelines, this research study will gain feedback from adults with intellectual disabilities who have experience receiving mental health treatment, as well as from mental health professionals who have experience providing treatment to the IDD population.<br><br>The three human subjects related objectives for Can You Hear Me Now? Study 3: Guidelines are as follows: 1) Conduct an online survey to collect information on psychotherapeutic practices currently used by mental health professionals who have experience providing psychotherapy treatment or counseling to with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The purpose of the online survey is to inform focus group questions for mental health professionals who have experience treating people with IDD (see Study Objective 2 and Study Objective 3). 2) Conduct national online focus groups with mental health professionals to obtain stakeholder feedback on factors related to high-quality mental health treatment and barriers for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Focus groups will be conducted mental health professionals who have experience treating people with IDD (such as licensed psychologists, counselors, social workers, or Board Certified Behavior Analysts). 3) Conduct national online focus groups with adults with IDD to obtain stakeholder feedback on factors related to high-quality mental health treatment and barriers for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Focus groups will be conducted with adults with IDD and co-occurring mental health concerns (dual diagnosis) who have experience receiving mental health treatment.
