日本の労働力人口は2023年平均で約6,930万人と、前年の約6,900万人より増加しました。
労働力としての女性 
少子高齢化の影響もあり、日本の失業率は比較的低い水準となっています。そのため、各企業はさまざまな方法で労働力確保に取り組んでいます。労働力不足への対応策のひとつとして期待が寄せられているのが、女性の雇用拡大です。近年では、働く女性の数が増えており、上昇を続ける女性の就業率をみても明らかです。女性の雇用が増大している要因のひとつには、サービス部門の拡大があるとみられています。 
さらなる労働力 
女性の雇用拡大以外にも、日本で働く外国人労働者の増加や、高齢者の就業率の高さも注目に値します。2023年の日本の労働力を年齢別に表した内訳からは、900万人の高齢者が60歳または65歳の年金開始年齢を過ぎたにもかかわらず働き続けていたことがわかっています。

Due to the impact of demographic aging, Japan's unemployment rate remains relatively low. Consequently, various methods are employed by companies to secure labor. One of the strategies anticipated to address labor shortages is the expansion of female employment. In recent years, the number of working women has been increasing, and the rising employment rate of women continues to be evident. One factor contributing to the expansion of women's employment is the growth in the service sector. In addition to the expansion of female employment, the increase in foreign workers in Japan and the high employment rate among the elderly are also of note. From the breakdown of Japan's labor force by age in 2023, it was found that 9 million elderly individuals, despite having passed the age of 60 or 65, the starting age for retirement benefits, continued to work.
