Understanding how organisms adapt to the environment is a major goal of modern biology. So far, however, little is known about the genomic and structural properties of species contributing to their adaptive potential. We investigate polytopic ecotype divergence in the plant Heliosperma pusillum (Caryophyllaceae), a case of parallel ecotype formation in plants. The study seeks to quantify the degree of gene expression and functional parallelism across natural evolutionary replicates and gain insights into the architecture of adaptive traits.
