U.S. counties with the most Chapter 13 bankruptcy filings FY 2022

In 2022, Cook County in Illinois registered the highest number of Chapter 13 bankruptcies of any county in the United States with 4,822 non-business and 19 business bankruptcy cases filed. Chapter 13 bankruptcy is where debtors propose a repayment plan over a three- to five-year period. It is only available to those with sufficient disposable income to service their debts and allows for the debtor to avoid the sale of their assets to repay their outstanding debt.
