The EORTC 10994 trial tested whether p53 status could predict the response of breast tumours to chemotherapy with fluorouracil/epirubicin/cylophosphamide versus epirubicin/docetaxel. p53 status tested by yeast functional assay did not predict the response. p53 sequencing was performed on a small sample of tumors to verify that tumors scored as mutant in the yeast assay did contain p53 mutations.
