资源简介:
Phytoplankton data through July 2007. It%26#226;%26#128;%26#153;s in a crosstab format (station and date down the side, with genus names across the top). It%26#226;%26#128;%26#153;s a fairly hefty dataset (about 5000 sampling events). Genera that had less than 10 records for the entire dataset were eliminated. ~ 90 genera total. There are some samples where no phytoplankton were seen; in these cases you will see zeros across all the rows. The values given are organisms per milliliter. Station and genus metadata are included. A quick note about some of the taxa: we see a lot of benthic taxa in our samples because they become entrained in the water column. Practically all our pennate diatoms are benthic. The taxon %26#226;%26#128;%26#156;unidentified flagellate%26#226;%26#128;%26#157; is any flagellate thing we see that can%26#226;%26#128;%26#153;t be identified (I think this is usually because they are not algae, but heterotrophic protists). All of our algal flagellates (i.e. cryptomonads, flagellated green algae) are usually identified, unless they%26#226;%26#128;%26#153;re too damaged. I think this is rare, though; I think the majority of our algal flagellates can be identified, so very few would ever be called %26#226;%26#128;%26#156;unidentified flagellate.%26#226;%26#128;%26#157; As for the class and common names, I%26#226;%26#128;%26#153;ve gone off the most recent stuff that I have. I don%26#226;%26#128;%26#153;t particularly like calling a group of algae %26#226;%26#128;%26#156;yellow-brown%26#226;%26#128;%26#157; or %26#226;%26#128;%26#156;yellow-green%26#226;%26#128;%26#157; for 2 reasons: 1) frankly, it doesn%26#226;%26#128;%26#153;t tell you much about the group, and 2) many taxa in different classes share pigments, and will have a similar color. Something like %26#226;%26#128;%26#156;haptophyte%26#226;%26#128;%26#157; gives you a much better idea of where the alga belongs taxonomically. Lastly, I%26#226;%26#128;%26#153;ve used the term %26#226;%26#128;%26#156;cyanobacteria%26#226;%26#128;%26#157; instead of %26#226;%26#128;%26#156;blue-green algae%26#226;%26#128;%26#157; for a common name for the class Cyanophyceae. I prefer the term %26#226;%26#128;%26#156;cyanobacteria%26#226;%26#128;%26#157; because they are the only group of algae that are prokaryotic.
