The aim of this study is to investigate the virulence factors of the pathogen Providencia alcalifaciens and the respective host defense mechanisms using the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster. For this purpose, we performed transcriptional profiling of uninfected and infected flies which helped us to characterize the host responses and understand the pathogen strategies to overcome them.
