Complete genome sequence of the filamentous bacteriophage CAK1 infecting Clostridium Beijerinckii NCIMB 6444. CAK1

The complete genome sequencing of a filamentous phage, CAK1, infecting Clostridium Beijerinckii NCIMB 6444 was achieved. The presence of a filamentous phage in culture of strain NCIMB 6444 has been described by Kim and Blaschek in 1991, however, it was not fully sequenced at this time. We obtained this strain from NCIMB, purified its DNA and sequenced it, and show it is not genetically close to any isolated known phage at this point. This phage has a 6.6 kb circular ssDNA genome which was functionnaly annotated: it encodes 12 predicted CDSs, which are organized in typical filamentous phage functional modules involved in replication, virion structure and assembly-extrusion.
