Draft genome of the predatory yeast Saccharomycopsis schoenii (CBS 7425) [PacBio]. S. schoenii genome (PacBio)

Yeast in the genus Saccharomycopsis share a feature; they have the ability to attack and kill other yeast and filamentous fungi. Descriptive cell culture based studies on the Saccharomycopsis clade have been performed by Lachance et al., but with recent advances in bioinformatics and next generation sequencing, significant additional insights into the life, predatory behaviour and the potential usefulness of Saccharomycopsis yeasts can be made. Our group therefore de novo sequenced, assembled and annotated the genome of Saccharomycopsis schoenii, using a combination of 250 bp paired-end and 8kb mate-pair Illumina MiSeq reads and 20kb PacBio sequencing reads.
