Shelters of Attica (2023) – National Observatory of Athens

This dataset contains the geographic locations of designated shelters within the Region of Attica, Greece, for the reference year 2023, provided in ESRI Shapefile format (shelters.shp). Compiled and processed by the National Observatory of Athens, the file includes point geometries representing official shelter sites across Attica, along with relevant attribute information such as shelter identifiers and classification where available. The data are suitable for use in standard GIS environments including QGIS, ArcGIS, and Python-based geospatial workflows (e.g., GeoPandas), and follow the official Greek coordinate reference system (GGRS87 / EPSG:2100) as specified in the accompanying .prj file. This dataset supports spatial analysis applications such as emergency planning, accessibility and service area analysis, hazard exposure assessment, and resilience planning, and has been used in regional risk assessment workflows to evaluate shelter coverage and accessibility across the Attica region.
