Transcriptome of Phaeodactylum tricornutum under the interaction of warming and iron limitation

In general, iron limitation and warming both will affect the gene expression of most metabolic pathways including ribosome bio-synthesis/assembly, photosynthesis, respiration, TCA cycle, iron acquisition, trafficking, and storage. We measured the transcriptomes of Phaeodactylus trichonotus under Topt, sub- Topt and super- Topt with iron limitation and normal conditions. When warming from sub- Topt to Topt combined with iron limitation, P. tricornutum are used to enhance degradation process through increasing the gene expression of proteases and some HSP proteins but deceasing the gene expression of the ribosome bio-synthesis/assembly. To the contrary, the interaction of iron limitation with warming from Topt to super- Topt enhance de novo synthesis processes through enhancing the gene expression of ribosome bio-synthesis/assembly and decrease the degradation pathways. These findings revealed that the varied mechanism of marine diatoms response to the interaction of iron limitation and warming were depending on the difference between the habitat temperature and their optimal temperatures.
