State Mile Points

Current Release (April 2022 of all segmented routes by mile markers in West Virginia. The WVDOT linear referencing system (LRS) is a method of relative spatial referencing, in which an event (asset or activity) is recorded in terms of measurements along a linear element in the agency’s highway network. Each event is located by either a point (e.g. a signpost) or a line (e.g. a no-passing zone). The system is designed so that if a segment of a route is changed, only those milepoints on the changed segment need to be updated. There are two linear referencing method (LRMs) in the WVDOT LRS as below: · Countywide Milepoint LRM – This referencing method has Interstates set up as continuous routes across county boundaries. Their mile points are not reset at county boundaries. However, such a route has a unique Route ID in each county that it crosses. For all the other routes, belonging to various other sign systems, their Start / End mile points are reset at county boundaries. · Statewide Milepoint LRM – This referencing method is set up as continuous routes across county boundaries, from one end of the State to the other. Their Start / End mile points are not reset at county boundaries.
