Excavations at Albany Road, Exeter 1984 (Exeter archive site 79)

Exeter Museums Archaeological Field Unit carried out a trial excavation on the site, bounded by Cowick Street, Alphington Street, St Thomas' Station and the railway viaduct, in 1978 in advance of redevelopment revealing bronze casting in the late 16th and early 17th century. Additional excavation work was carried out on the site in 1984, following documentary and cartographic research which highlighted the significance of the site, with the aim of determining the extent of the metal working site and estimate its production volume.
