Complete genome of the newly characterized non-pathogen and tomato seed-associated phytobacterium Clavibacter michiganensis subsp. californiensis CFBP 8216 (=ATCC BAA-2691 =C55) (Yasuhara-Bell and Alvarez, 2015). The complete sequence corresponds to the wild type strain isolated by Wendy Kaneshiro from seeds obtained from tomatoes produced under irrigation in Tracy, California, USA. The genomic description and functional analysis of this subspecies together with the another non-pathogen C. michiganensis subsp. chilensis will be helpful to compare and illuminate those gene clusters that are not found in these both bacteria, but that are present and contribute in virulence to the quarantine bacterium responsible of tomato canker disease, C. michiganensis subsp. michiganensis. Moreover, comparative genomics using this genome will be essential to decipher how all Clavibacter subspecies have evolved and specialized to infect distinct and specific hosts within the genus Clavibacter.
