KA KORĪ TE HENUA - Participative Game Design Workshop I. July 15, 2021

This one-day online participatory design workshop was conducted with children from Rapa Nui (Easter Island) to explore ideas for a digital game centred on Rapa Nui heritage and language. The session was facilitated remotely from the United Kingdom, while the participating children attended the workshop in person on the island, under the direction of Hahave Tuki. The event began with an introductory lecture by Professor Erik Champion, who provided context on cultural heritage and game design.During the workshop, 19 children aged 10–16 engaged in creative activities to share their perspectives and concepts for the proposed game. Using paper prototyping and drawing exercises, participants visually expressed their ideas, imagining how Rapa Nui culture and language could be represented in an interactive format. The primary data collected from the workshop consisted of the children’s drawings and paper prototypes.
