Genetic characterization of Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae from Humans and Poultry in Nigeria

This study shows the detection of antimicrobial resistant bacteria in not only humans but also poultry samples. This shows that poultry farms or meat products might be an important source of antimicrobial resistant bacteria resulting in infections with difficult therapeutic options in humans. The value of genomic approaches in antimicrobial resistance surveillance for improving infection prevention and control in Nigerian hospitals and research laboratories cannot be underestimated.
