资源简介:
This large dataset (3.8GB) comprises seafloor images from the Porcupine Abyssal Plain Sustained Observatory site, supplied as original .jpg files, together with supporting metadata on geolocation, water depth, date and time of collection. The images were collected using a free-fall time-lapse camera system 'Bathysnap' the general characteristics of which are documented by Bett (2003). The images relate to a 2 week deployment of the Bathysnap system at the Porcupine Abyssal Plain Sustained Observatory, which has a notional location of 48degrees 50' N 016degrees 30' W (4850m water depth), during August 2011 on RRS James Cook cruise JC062. Specifics of the data collection during these deployments of Bathysnap can be found in Lampitt (2013 and 2014) and Ruhl (2012). Bathysnap imagery forms a standard component of the Porcupine Abyssal Plain Sustained Observatory operations (see e.g. Hartman et al, 2012). The data are raw digital data (images) as offloaded from the camera system. No image manipulation has been undertaken and no modification of Exif (Exchangeable image file format) data has been undertaken. Images recorded on deck or in the water column have been removed from the dataset.
