Residue scrapings from the insides of two Shoshoni ware pottery vessels
were examined for pollen and phytoliths. Several rim sherds that fit together
(NSM-108) were found near Glenn's Ferry, Idaho. The other residue
scrapings were removed from a whole vessel with a flat bottom and flaring
sides from Silver Creek in central Nevada (NSM-148). Pollen and phytolith
analyses were undertaken in an effort to identify the origin of the residues.
The residue from Idaho (NSM-108) appeared to have been carbonized,
while the residue from Nevada (NSM-148) was partially carbonized.
