Facebook was the social media platform that was most common among Norwegians in recent years. A survey, conducted in the third quarter of 2020, showed that 81 percent of the respondents used Facebook. Despite still being the king of social media, Facebook has been the only platform that has seen an annual decrease. Snapchat came in second in the ranking, with 62 percent of the interviewed Norwegians using it. As of the second quarter of 2019, the share of Norwegian Facebook users was highest among women, aged between 30 and 39 years (94 percent). The male Facebook users in that age group were 85 percent that year. How often are Norwegians on social media? 73 percent of the interviewed Norwegian internet users reported to have used social media daily or almost daily. Ten percent said they used it weekly and only three percent used it less often than weekly. The Nordics Within the Nordic countries, Norway ranked fourth by share of active mobile social media users per capita, after Iceland, the Faroe Islands and Denmark. 70 percent of the users of the most active social media platform in Norway were considered active users. Sweden and Finland followed in the ranking.
