VPRS 8924 Subject Files, Annual Single Number Sequence (Finance Department)

Several registries using different filing systems operated within the State Electricity of Victoria (SECV) (VA 1002). The Central Registry created files relating to management, legal and policy matters. Decentralised registries operated in other departments of the Commission, eg. Personnel, Finance and Transmission, etc.This series consists of files created by the Finance Registry of the State Electricity Commission of Victoria (SECV) (VA 1002). Finance Branch was responsible for funding and accounting of the SEC's financial activities and for the provision of certain service functions which embraced material supply, management, transport, metropolitan engineering and transport workshops.Until 1979 Finance Department files were created in VPRS 8897 Subject Correspondence Files: Multiple Number Sequence. In July 1979 a new sequence of files (this series) began to be created under an annual single number system. The active files from the multiple number filing system were top numbered into this system. All files in this series have a distinctive Finance Department file cover (pink) and a departmental file number prefixed by "FI". Files that were deemed to be confidential were additionally enclosed in a blue-green file cover with the word confidential marked on it. This series ended in 1987 when a computerised records management system was introduced (refer to VPRS 8948). File number 56/5/2 entitled Review of Filing Procedures - Finance Department, which is located in VPRS 8897/P1 Unit 103, includes details about the introduction of the system as well as details of the system of arrangement and control outlined below.
