Exploring Households' Willingness to Pay for Clean Water in Karachi

This dataset contains household-level survey data collected to estimate willingness to pay (WTP) for improvements in piped water quality and pressure in Karachi, Pakistan. Data were gathered through a city-wide household survey administered in two seasonal rounds — November 2021 to February 2022 and June to July 2022 — allowing observation of responses under different conditions of water demand and supply. The sampling design was stratified random across Karachi's six main administrative districts (East, West, South, Central, Malir, and Korangi), with cantonment areas excluded as they fall outside the utility's service boundary. Strata were weighted using population figures from the 2017 Pakistan Census; one town was randomly selected within each district, followed by five Union Councils per town and between six and nine households per Union Council, with proportional allocation across strata. Of 1,010 surveys administered, 990 are complete and usable, and are included here.本数据集包含为评估巴基斯坦卡拉奇地区居民对管道供水水质与水压提升的支付意愿（Willingness to Pay, WTP）而收集的家庭层面调查数据。数据通过全市范围的家庭调查采集，分为两个季节性轮次开展：2021年11月至2022年2月，以及2022年6月至7月，以此可观测不同供水供需条件下的受访者反馈。本次抽样采用分层随机抽样方法，覆盖卡拉奇六大主要行政区（东、西、南、中央、马利尔与科兰吉），并排除了军管区域，因其不在供水企业的服务边界范围内。分层权重基于2017年巴基斯坦人口普查的人口数据设定；每个行政区内随机选取1个城镇，每个城镇再选取5个联合委员会，每个联合委员会内抽取6至9户家庭，且各层采用按比例分配的抽样方式。本次共发放1010份问卷，其中990份为完整可用问卷，均收录于本数据集。
