Transcriptome of Dichapetalum cymosum in response to mechanical wounding

Dichapetalum cymosum produces the toxic fluorinated metabolite, fluoroacetate, presumably as a defence mechanism. Fluorinated metabolites are extremely rare in nature, therefore, the biosynthetic origin and function of fluoroacetate have been of particular interest for many years. However, very little is known about the mechanism for fluorination in plants and this is further complicated by the lack of genetic information available for fluorometabolite-producing plants, such as Dichapetalum cymosum. This study aimed to produce the first transcriptome for Dichapetalum cymosum and investigate the wound response for insights into fluorometabolite production.
