Fine mapping, PsPS1, a gene controlling pod softness that defines market type in pea (Pisum sativum)

Pea (Pisum sativum L.) is an important grain and vegetable legume crop with a large genome of ~4.45Gb. The softness of immature pod is key to the quality of pea, yet the genes controlling this trait remain unknown. To understand the mechanisms underlying pod softness in pea as well as the genetic improvement of this trait. Bulked segregant sequencing (BSA-Seq) using the soft- and hard-podded pools from the F2 population was used to detect candidate genes controlling pod softness.
