VPRS 9286 Contracts and Specifications for Construction of Town Hall

These documents set out the terms and conditions of the contracts for the building of town halls in 1850 and 1867. The first was signed by the builder Charles Frederick Hunt amongst others. The second was signed by the builder, James Lawrence, and by William Cain for the Mayor, Aldermen, Counsellors (sic) and Citizens of Melbourne. The site for the construction of the Town Hall was the same in both contracts: the north- east angle of the junction of Collins and Swanston Streets.The documents include the contract deeds, specifications, and a memento from the laying of the foundation stone of the Town Hall in 1867 which also includes some photographs of the first Town Hall.
