资源简介:

Matlab files that contain high-resolution estimates of turbulent kinetic energy dissipation rate and vertical diffusion from three EM-APEX floats (7133, 7134, and 7135) that were deployed in Hurricane Michael’s L.H.S. (over a Loop Current anticyclonic eddy), Michael’s eye (over a frontal oceanic regime), and Michael’s R.H.S. (over a Loop Current frontal cyclonic eddy). Data were collected 2018-10-08 – 2018-10-20. Observed variables include temperature, salinity, pressure, and currents. Derived parameters include turbulent kinetic energy dissipation rate and vertical diffusion. This dataset is part of a suite of observations made during Hurricane Michael: Surface geostrophic currents (U3.x977.000:0019, https://doi.org/10.7266/c4hha5fq); gridded upper ocean climatology (U3.x977.000:0020, https://doi.org/10.7266/anc78baj); gridded upper ocean parameters (U3.x977.000:0021, https://doi.org/10.7266/akrkmx2b); vertical wind shear (U3.x977.000:0022, https://doi.org/10.7266/31rg2nyf); XCTD profiles (U3.x977.000:0023, https://data.griidc.org/data/U3.x977.000:0023); profiles from EM-APEX floats (U3.x977.000:0024, https://doi.org/10.7266/9pgyyy3h); air-sea interaction parameters (U3.x977.000:0025, https://doi.org/10.7266/h2kdfw51); dissipation and diffusion estimates (U3.x977.000:0026, https://doi.org/10.7266/tz6trn5f); modeled temperature and salinity responses (U3.x977.000:0027, https://doi.org/10.7266/jw0xp79z). This dataset supports the publication: Jaimes de la Cruz, B., & Shay, L. K. (2025). Near-surface arresting of wind-driven cooling in the Gulf of Mexico facilitates the rapid intensification of major Hurricane Michael (2018).
