Earth Surface and Atmospheric Imagery from MOS-1-MSR

MOS-1 was launched on February 19, 1987 carrying the MESSR
(Multi-spectrum Electronic Scanning Radiometer), VTIR (Visible and
Thermal Infrared Radiometer) and MSR (Microwave Scanning
Radiometer). MOS-1 is Japan's first earth observation satellite. A
later satellite (MOS-1b) carries the same sensors.

For the wavelength band of the MSR, frequencies corresponding to the
water vapor absorption band and frequencies suitable for the
observation of the water content are selected since the major missions
of the MSR are the observation of the water vapor content in the
atmosphere above oceans and the distribution of water content in the
water vapor, sea ice and snow cover.

MOS-1/1b data have been received not only at NASDA/EOC but also at
foreign or overseas ground station such as ESA, CCRS(Canada), CSIRO
(Australia), Thailand and the antarctic station (Showa station).
