Colwellia sp. MT2012 is an obligately piezophilic psychrophile isolated from amphipods collected from the Challenger Deep of the Mariana Trench on April 3, 2012. This strain was cultivated at 110MPa and 4 degree centigrade for 6 weeks in Difco Marine Medium 2216. The genome of such extremely piezophilic bacteria provides an opportunity to conduct comparative genomic analyses to study extremely high pressure adaptation.
