Global gridded terrestrial water storage anomalies reconstructed during the GRACE/GRACE-FO gap period using polar motion excitation data

The 11-month gap between the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) mission and its successor, GRACE Follow-On (GRACE-FO) has attracted wide research attention of the reconstruction of GRACE-like terrestrial water storage anomalies (TWSA). Polar motion constrains the accuracy of regional water storage reconstructions at the global scale. This study established a relationship between polar motion excitation and GRACE/GRACE-FO observations and reconstruct TWSA during the gap period via spatiotemporal decomposition.
