Eclipta thermalis Bunge was known as a noxious paddy weed in the 1940s and 1950s in Japan, but appears to be threatened by environmental changes and the unintentional introduction of an exotic congener E. alba (L.) Hassk. from North America to Japan in 1948. To understand the canses and processes of this decline from the perspective of hybridization-mediated risk, we sequenced and developed microsatellite genetic markers available for Eclipta.
