The epigenetic aspects of cellular responses to irradiation

The project is aimed at the analysis of epigenetic effects of cellular responses to irradiation. Here we aim to sequence genomes, epigenomes, and transcriptomes of cells exposed to different kinds of irradiation, including those of gamma rays and UV. We address the questions of the mechanisms of irradiation-induced senescence and the molecular mechanisms governing the transition from cycling to senescent cells. Particular attention is paid to the behavior of subcellular compartments such as the nucleolus. These studies contribute to our better understanding of the impacts of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation on living matter with potential applications in radiotherapy.
