Physical Oceanography Distributed Active Archive Center

Since the launch of NASA's first ocean-observing satellite, Seasat, in 1978, the Physical Oceanography Distributed Active Archive Center (PO.DAAC) has become the first data center for measurements focused on sea surface topography, ocean temperature, ocean winds, salinity, gravity, and ocean circulation. In addition to providing access to its data holdings, PO.DAAC acts as a gateway to data stored at other ocean and climate archives. This and other tools and services enable PO.DAAC to support a wide user community working in areas such as ocean and climate research, applied science and industry, natural resource management, policy making, and general public consumption. The PO.DAAC is one of the Earth Observing System Data and Information System (EOSDIS) Distributed Active Archive Centers (DAACs) that archive and distribute earth science data, managed by NASA's Earth Science Data and Information System Project (ESDIS), as part of the Earth Science Data Systems (ESDS) Program.

自1978年美国国家航空航天局（NASA）发射首颗海洋观测卫星Seasat以来，物理海洋学分布式主动存档中心（Physical Oceanography Distributed Active Archive Center，PO.DAAC）已成为首个专注于海面地形、海洋温度、海洋风场、海水盐度、重力场及海洋环流测量数据的数据中心。该中心除开放自身的数据馆藏资源访问渠道外，还可作为其他海洋与气候存档机构所存储数据的访问网关。依托此类工具与服务，PO.DAAC能够为覆盖海洋与气候研究、应用科学与工业界、自然资源管理、政策制定以及普通公众使用等广泛领域的用户群体提供支持。PO.DAAC隶属于地球科学数据系统（Earth Science Data Systems，ESDS）计划，是地球观测系统数据与信息系统（Earth Observing System Data and Information System，EOSDIS）下属的分布式主动存档中心（Distributed Active Archive Centers，DAACs）之一，该类中心负责存档与分发地球科学数据，由美国国家航空航天局（NASA）地球科学数据与信息系统项目（Earth Science Data and Information System Project，ESDIS）管理。
