The purpose of genome sequencing and assembly for Argopecten irradians and Argopecten purpuratus is to uncover the molecular mechanisms of their hybrid infertility and provide essential resources for their hybrid breeding. This research is a part of ongoing M10K+ genome project that is proposed by M10K+ Consortium and targets for sequencing 10K molluscan genomes.
