Land use types are divided into 9 primary categories: cultivated land, closed forest land, shrub forest land, sparse forest land, grassland, water area, non-forest land, construction land and difficult-to-utilize land, and are further subdivided into the following secondary types: paddy field in mountainous areas, paddy field in hilly areas, dry land in mountainous areas, dry land in hilly areas, flat dry land, dry land with slope over 25°, closed forest land, shrub forest land, sparse forest land, economic fruit forest land, high-coverage grassland, medium-coverage grassland, low-coverage grassland, river, lake, reservoir, pond, beach land, urban land, rural residential land, industrial and mining construction land, bare land and bare rock and gravel land.
