<b>Grassland Meta-Data</b><b><br></b><b>Description of Data Column Labels:</b><b>Quadrat:</b> A quadrat of 1m by 1m was randomly placed on the grasslands a total of 25 times.<b>Total Abundance of Plants: </b>The total abundance of plants was obtained through a quick count of each individual plant species within the quadrat. An estimation was done for the abundance of grass.<b>Number of Species: </b>The number of species was obtained through a count of each different plant within the quadrat.<b>Percentage Covered by Plants: </b>An estimation of the percentage of the quadrat covered by different plant species.<b>Percentage Covered by Grass: </b>An estimation of the percentage of the quadrat covered by grass.<b><br></b><b>Additional Information:</b>The data obtained in this experiment are continuous as our data are numerical. The data for percentage covered by plants and grass is measured as a percentage (%). The data for number of species was collected through observation of the different plants within the quadrat. Examination of these quadrats and assigning of "Percentage Covered" was first done using the categorical variables of "grass" and "plant", before the numerical data was determined.The field site was located on the York University-Keele Campus on a grassland area near Keele Street and York Boulevard. The conditions were sunny, clear skies, and 24 degrees Celsius. The grassland was approximately 200m by 350m wide and tall trees surrounded its perimeter.<b>Methods: </b>Quadrats were used and placed into the grassland to record the data set. Once the quadrat was place a quick count of every individual was taken as well as the different number of plant species present, and data were recorded. Furthermore, an estimation of the percentage of plants and grass was taken and recorded as a percent (%).This survey was conducted at approximately 3 p.m. and took 1 hour to complete.<b>Hypothesis: </b>Regions of the grassland with a higher abundance of plants will have a lower abundance of grass.<br><b>Prediction: </b>If the regions of grassland with a higher abundance of plants have less grass, the viability of grass species is dependent upon the presence and abundance of other plant species within the same area.
