The Qing Dynasty Official Resumes Database is sourced from the memorials for imperial audience of Zhejiang officials during the Qing Dynasty.
Imperial audience, known as Yinjian in Chinese, was a core official system in the Qing Dynasty. Officials below the fifth rank in the central government and below the fourth rank in local administrations were required to attend an audience with the Emperor once, for reasons including initial appointment, imperial performance review (Jingcha), official recommendation, and formal confirmation after completing a training period. Civil officials were reviewed in batches by the Ministry of Personnel, while military officials were handled by the Ministry of War. During the audience process, officials were required to submit a Yinjian Memorial (introduction memorial).
The collected memorials for imperial audience of Qing Dynasty Zhejiang officials are microfilm reproductions, covering the period from the 58th year of Emperor Kangxi (1719) to the 2nd year of Emperor Xuantong (1910). This microfilm archive collection was provided to this library by the First Historical Archives of China.
This microfilm archive is split into two parts: The first section contains the memorials for imperial audience of officials serving in Zhejiang Province during the Qing Dynasty; the second section contains the memorials for imperial audience of Zhejiang-born officials serving across the country and in the imperial capital (Beijing).
The primary contents of these memorial archives include: name, official position, native place, age, imperial examination background, official resume, eulogistic texts, and other related items. In practice, these documents primarily function as modern-style official resume books.
The Qing Dynasty Official Resumes are extracted from the aforementioned memorials for imperial audience of Zhejiang officials.
The Qing Dynasty Official Resumes Database includes a total of 1145 file-level catalog entries, with each entry composed of five fields: "Name", "Native Place", "Official Position", "Time Period", and "Source".
