VPRS 11950 Internal Index to Register of Cabinet Decisions (FoI), Cain/Kirner Government

This series indexed the Register of Cabinet Decisions that was required to be published under the Freedom of Information Act 1982. The series also cross-referenced FoI register numbers with full Cabinet Record decision numbers. The FoI register comprises VPRS 11949 Register of Cabinet Decisions (FoI), while the full Cabinet record comprises VPRS 11948 Cabinet Record. The portion of VPRS 11950 in custody comprises the extant portion of the index created under the Cain-Kirner government, 1983 to September 1992.  Section 10 (1) of the Act required the Premier to publish on a continuing basis a register containing: (a) details of the terms of all decisions made by the Cabinet (b) the reference number assigned to each such decision, and (c) the date on which the decision was made. Section 10 (2) stated that this information shall be entered on the register at the discretion of the Premier. The register was not a complete record of all decisions made by Cabinet or of the specifics of those decisions recorded in it. The complete record was made in VPRS 11948 Cabinet Record. The first entries in the register (VPRS 11949) and this series (VPRS 11950) date from the commencement of the Act in July 1983, there having been no prior requirement to release this information. This index (VPRS 11950) was created by the Cabinet Office, who compiled the FoI Register on behalf of the Premier. It contained index information which was additional to that included in the published index to the Register. It also contained procedures, apparently dated about mid-1988, for compiling the Register. The internal index was also included in most of the registers held within VPRS 11949.
