Mesorhizobium ciceri R30 and Mesorhizobium mediterraneum R31 are the two strains recommended for the inoculation of chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) in Argentina. Through symbiotic interactions, these rhizobia improve chickpea development by providing it with assimilable nitrogen compounds. Genomic sequencing of these bacteria could improve our understanding of the symbiotic process and of many other physiological processes.
