VPRS 2984 Reports of Management Reviews

This series consists of reports of management reviews of a number of government departments and statutory authorities undertaken by the Public Service Board (VA 886). The reviews were conducted by the Research and Projects Division from 1978 to 1981 and by the Management Consultancy and Organisational Studies Division from 1981 to circa 1990.The Research and Projects Division was established in 1978. In the 1979 Annual Report of the Public Service Board it was reported that there have been two types of reviews undertaken. The first are Management Synopses which are overview investigations, lasting approximately one month, of a Department or a major part of a Department. They are prescriptive where possible and so aim to identify further action to secure improvements. The second type, that of Corporate Management Review, is a thorough investigation of the corporate efficiency, effectiveness and economy of a Department or a major part thereof. It is of four months duration to the reporting stage and has a heavy emphasis on prescriptive recommendations.
